Paris's Musee du Louvre, built in the 12th century as a fortress, opened to the public in 1793 with just 537 paintings in its collection. Today, it houses more than 35,000 priceless works of art, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.

America's "queen of commedy," Lucille Ball, was born in New York in 1911. Repeatedly rejected for the chorus lines of Broadway shows, Ball's first break came when she was chosen as the national poster model for Chesterfield cigarettes in 1933 and soon caught Hollywood's eye.

Track star Jesse Owens took home his fourth gold medal at the Berlin Olympics in 1936. During the 4X100-meter relay, Owens and his teammates scored an incredible time of 39.8 seconds - a world record they held for 20 years.

IBM introduced its first personal computer, the 5150, in 1981. It weighed 25 pounds and cost $3,000 for a model with its own screen. (A $1,565 version worked only if attached to an audio cassette player and a television set!) Compare that to today's mini laptops, which weight around three pounds and cost as little as $300.

President Eisenhower gave Americans a 25% pay hike when he raised the minimum wage from 75 cents to $1 an hour in 1955.

Smile! Allen Funt's Candid Camera, one of the first reality TV shows, hit the airwaves in 1948. The hidden camera show ran in various versions all the way to the 2000s.

My Picks For Today

HELPFUL HINT: Blender clean-up made easy ....

Fill it one-quarter full with warm water, a 1/4 tsp of

liquid dish soap and 4 ice cubes and run on high for

one minute. The ice will scour the blades and force

soapy water into every cranny. Rinse and you are done.

Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others.

If you have that awareness, you have good manners,

no matter which fork you use.

~Emily Post, author, etiquette expert (1872-1960)

You are just like everyone else - you have days when

you look in the mirror and you are like, "oh my gosh,

I wish I could change this or that." Know that the more

you mature, you realize that those imperfections

make you more beautiful.

There isn't a single person in the world that hasn't
Had to struggle with something or overcome
Difficulties at some point in life.  We all face
Challenges and adversity.

At this very moment you may be facing one, whether
They're related to money, health , children, family
Or careers.  It is all part of being alive.

Recognize that obstacles are just part of your
Journey.  Don't let them stop you and never give up.
Instead, think of them as milestones that once
Passed will bring you closer to your goals.

Remember that with every challenge passed, you are a
Little stronger, a little wiser and more prepared for
The rest of your journey.

Keep shoelaces tied with lip balm!

It is true they say - help keep shoelaces from

coming undone with clear lip balm. Lightly

coat the strings where you knot them with a

dab of balm. This will help create grip and

hold your laces firmly in place.

Give birth to new possibilities
through your ability
to reach into the future and
let go of the past.

On a long journey of human life,

faith is the best of companions;

it is the best refreshment on the

journey; and it is the

greatest property.
